The Role of Congress in Wartime
The fact that Harry Truman and the committee, obviously with the Democratic majority, were aligned with the executive branch. Is the key story here and this is a good explanation for why committees haven't been particularly effective. And then again, a lot of it I really think has to do with Truman's leadership itself. The press releases were more substantive than the actual hearings themselves.
