The Slowdown in Consumer Spending
Vincent Reinhardt: How long can consumers keep spending like this at a time where we're seeing results from the likes of Hertz and Royal Caribbean? That trend is still in place. Second thing, inventory is on the soft side. The closest relationship of business loans to economic activity is the inventory component. So some of the softening in bank lending we've seen might actually be demand, not supply and credit constriction.
