Elizabeth says she saw women working at Peacock Lane who looked much older than her. She said they lived their entire lives inside the laundry. Once, Elizabeth tried to escape by jumping out of a window without bars and landing on her ankle. The woman was able to walk across town to a hospital where she planned to ask for a job there.

When she was 14 years old, Elizabeth Coppin was sent to a place called Peacock Lane in Cork, Ireland. It was a laundry business run by a Catholic order of nuns. Elizabeth noticed bars on its windows.
