Introduction

This week we look at the remaining Byzantine provinces to the west of Constantinople. We also take a glance at the northern neighbors of the empire. The barbarian tribes living to the north of Italy and the Danube are highlighted. These were all German tribes who had been brought under Attila's yoke in 454.
