In 1989, Florentine authorities reached out to the FBI for help. Based on their extensive research on serial killers, Quantico's Behavioral Science Unit drew up a thorough profile and sent it to Italy. The profile they came up with didn't match what local investigators had in mind so it seems it was largely ignored for years. That is, until one tenacious journalist got a hold of the report.
