Neutron Stars - Are We Going to Get Lucky to See a Gamma Ray Burst?

There are very likely many more gamma ray bursts than the ones we actually see because you need that serendipitous alignment of whatever the progenitor of the gamma ray burst is. If its jet to be serendipitously aligned with you with your location and if it's not pointed at you it's going to be so much fainter than if it does make a jet that is pointed at you absolutely yes. Although now we expect that uh possibly for most of the binary neutron stars that we see merging in gravitational waves we are not going to be that lucky to see the gamma ray bursts.
