The Unapologetically Driven Anger

Sogolon is unapologetically driven by her need for revenge. In a country where black women's emotions are always policed, it's almost a kiss of the angry black woman. Sogolon is nowhere near interested in suppressing her anger or anybody's take on it. It's sort of an allegory for learning to control your temper in one way and also that sometimes your emotions can lead to things that go beyond what you can control. And that's what happens with her. Sometimes it actually seems like an enemy. Or it seems like this seems to be part of me, but it's working to undercut me until she learns to accept her power.
