The Enlightenment and Montesquieu
Would we be where we are today in societies like America without these dead white males of the Enlightenment? I think the best way of answering that is to just look around at the various ways in which we use their ideas. Montesquieu's book, The Spirit of the Laws, was published in 1748. It was far and away the most widely cited book by the American founders.
