The Importance of George Morrison

When he was 17, George Morrison walked from Jollong to Adelaide around the coast. He then went on to walk from Shanghai to Rangoon and write a book about it. On the strength of that book, he was offered the position as the times correspondent in Peking. This made him an expert on all the machinations going on between the British, the Russians, the French, the Japanese, the Germans. If you wanted to know what was happening in China, Morrison was the man. The diary is in the New South Wales State Library. It starts from when he was about 17 or 18.
