Introduction
Matthew Olson, the Assistant Attorney General for the National Security Division, gave a major address at the Brookings Institution. He talked about FISA 702, the section of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act that allows U.S. intelligence authorities to collect against targets reasonably believed to be overseas when their signals pass through the United States. The provision comes up for reauthorization this year and Olson argued that it is imperative that Congress act to reauthorize it.
