The Upside Down Nature of Christmas

Christmas it seems to me is just so upside down that's what threw off so many people in Jesus day. Why did God subvert the expectations of his people I think we have a number of indications already in the Old Testament that the Lord works this way. There are points of deception for instance of people who think that they have power and then suddenly they suffer this catastrophic defeat.
