The Importance of Free Will in Education

The American education system was built off of the Prussian education system, which had been developed to subdue populations that the Prussian army had recently invaded. It was designed to make everyone in these newly conquered territories into good loyal Prussians who would be fit for military service when they grew up. The Americans were very impressed by that because they had this highly non homogenized continent full of immigrants that weren't getting along. They're like, well, we have to turn everybody into Americans. We have to figure out how to do this.
