Habermasian in me still has some hope that dialogue, reason, communication and treating people as if they deserve the dignity of being listened to rather than lectured to. But once you begin to demonize your opponent...you end up with no dialogue at all. All you can do is to try to destroy those people, try to marginalize and keep them out of politics rather than to persuade them. Some of these people are beyond the pale, we might say, but others, perhaps not.
