The focus for recording shifted from the instrumental sessions to vocal ones. Parks had often attended the instrumental sessions as he was an accomplished musician and a ranger himself, but also wanted to learn from what brian was doing. He stated later that some of his use of tuned percustion in the decades since has come from watching bryan's work. At the start of the summer, brian's eccentricity and whimsy had seemed harmless. But as the summer wore on into autumn and winter,. brian's behaviour became more bizarre and, to park's eyes, more distasteful.
