Gang of four book encourages composition over inheritance. I swear so many people have like taken a gang of four book and used that as an excuse to construct these like mad inheritance hierarchies from hell. It's a level of irony that we come up with these beautiful patterns for things and they tend to get completely inverse to what we were trying to move away from. Like this happened with object oriented programming, which I also was like another hill.
