"I have a similar relationship with my father, closer, i would say, than the one maybe sounds like you have," she says. "What hasn't sprung up in its place is this deep and abiding love." She writes that her grandfather was far worse to her than her father was to her. The author has no ill will towards him at all; he's been gone for decades.

Brian Broome is a poet, screenwriter, and instructor in the Writing Program at the University of Pittsburgh. He has been a finalist in The Moth storytelling competition and won the grand prize in Carnegie Mellon University’s Martin Luther King’s Writing Awards.
