The Origin of Language: A Connection to Throwing Abilities

This chapter explores the hypothesis that the motor control regions responsible for throwing may have been repurposed for language production. It discusses an experiment with chimpanzees that found a higher ratio of white matter to gray matter in regions associated with throwing and speech. The chapter suggests that throwing abilities in chimpanzees may have contributed to the development of language in humans.
