It's about how certain things can leave a scar, and you have to decide how you're going to proceed. All richard's lifes been a series of scars and how he deals with that scar tissue. It's such an important scene in the film because it really does obvostly change the course of the rest of the move where he decides pull his daughters out of junior tennis. They will no longer be doing what the status quo requires of them. He is saying, i am not going to follow the rules of societyor, you know, of this sport,.
