Andy's mother is Bhumma, the dominant ethnic group in Myanmar. His father is Karin, the ethnic group once used by the British government as soldiers. Andy primarily identifies as Bhumma and his family left after the Safran Revolution. They did not flee to escape political repression, but because the economy had collapsed.
