I admire the designer ethic of like, think of a future that's immeasurable. So I do usually favor if you can get any kind of a metric that's good by all means listen to the data. We've had problems where like hey we had a performance regression because our fancy new telemetry system is doing a bazillion file rights and it was collecting too much information. But when information is available, you should never ignore it. And then I think there is a kind of Johnny I the designer route of imagining a smile on their face imagining the experience of love and joy that you have when you use the thing.

John Carmack is a legendary programmer, co-founder of id Software, and lead programmer of many revolutionary video games including Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Quake, and the Commander Keen series.
