The Origins of Hellenism

The term Hellenismos first appears in our records in the 4th century BCE. Most basically it meant the ability to speak Greek well when it wasn't your native language. How does that work and how does that relate to Hellenism more broadly? So it's going to be worthwhile to return to the concept of Hellenism as a cultural concept, it's a very very complex concept so there's lots of moving parts to talk about.
