There are many problems caused by the high temperatures that a fusion reactor needs inside it. The huge advantage of this type of nuclear energy is that, once it's working, it won't need energy from outside. But mark says we're still some way away from that point. Part of the secret to conserving the heat within the reactor is picking very carefully what we use to build it.
