Is Gerard's Christianity Unorthodox?
In Gerard's Christianity, God's absence is just as loud and jarring as humanity's presence. The success of his anthropology at the cross crowds out a theology at the cross. People have deified and dehumanized Christ in the same way they did Zeus,. Like the sacrificial reading, the Christian story has been distorted to be more palatable. For Gerard, the very idea of Christian power is an oxymoron.
