Learning to Read in a Home-Educated Child

There's a massive mismatch between what we're trying to do with our young children and how our young children naturally learn. Harriet Paterson's research is that children who are home-educated learnt to read from the age of two until about 14. So there were kids who learnt to read at 14 who were going to college and reading novels at age 16, and were reading for pleasure at age 16. And it has huge implications in mental health stuff. This idea that schools naturally will point to the child as the problem opposed to questioning the environment. The child is in. Right? Yeah. When you've seen that sort of turn around, right? You've seen what is considered a problem child
