The people of israel had this narrative in their theology, that one day the messiah would come. And then jesus seemed to be indifferent to to their circumstances. It's almost as if jesus was trying to teach them how to live in a world where power was misused. I think hat they're not very much different in us. We really just want him to free us from the problems of the outer world. If jesus had at least tried, he would have been far more popular.
