To day, i would mostly just focus on chord tones. I'm learning being able to map them out using voice leading selict. The best jas musicians are doing is theyir resolving to chord tones in a variety of diferent ways. So lhike the two, five, one cord progression in traditional jaz standards. That's everywhere. You're gong to see a 2, 5, 1 Cord progression in traditional Jaz Standards. What happens if i'm targeting the thirds of each cord? And how would i do that?
