Is There a Controlled Experiment in Football?
In football, you can have a really good idea that comes to you from data. And you can't try it because you think it might work. Because if you do that and you lose, then you banjax. That might be the difference between qualifying for the Champions League and not. The relentless chaos of football is completely at odds with that at times. It's like trying to find the balance between what the numbers, what the data is telling you, how best to implement it - and just the sheer randomness of what football can do.
