The Politics of Literary Translation in Manchuria

Kim Dong-in wrote the red heels before he ever visited Manchuria. The Japanese did not really like that, so seeking to have their work translated in other languages became a token of recognition of a Korean linguistic, literary, and cultural identity. But despite their consistent effort throughout the Manchukwa regime, these group of writers weren't able to have any of their work translated into Japanese or Chinese.
