John Golden Gay: I was debating whether to do my PhD in hermeneutics or Old Testament. An Old Testament scholar friend of mine gave me his pitch on the Old Testament. He said, adjectives, we really, really need someone to work on adjectives. And I knew at that moment that I would be doing my PhD in Hermeneutics instead.
