A t and t was a regulated, public monopoly. They couldn't make money off stuff that wasn't their fundamental telephone business h because that would be cross subsidizing. So what they did was to license eunuchs for academic use for practically free. And then i guess thit's because bell was like just very permissive in terms of like, licensing it out of these universities and stuff.
