When natural gas came in, it was replacing paraffin lamps, whale oil lamps, coal burning hobs and braziers inside homes. But when you have the option for g, an electric heat pump, an induction stove, top ands, you know, electric appliances, which have none of that stuff. And o, in the case of natural gas, carbon monoxide, hence the requirement for carbon monoxide detectors.
