Jane Austen's Free Indirect Style

Jane Austen made a lot of literary innovations that contributed to the novel, and you still see novelists use the things she came up with when she's writing her stuff. One of those innovations is free indirect speech which involves narrating in third person but percolated through consciousness of one of the characters. In some novels like Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen will do that mostly through the consciousness of the heroine Elizabeth Bennett.
