Philip Dick wrote science fiction informed by an incredibly brilliant mind that he had. But at the same time, Dick was borderline and increasingly toward his later life definitively psychotic. His novels are almost universally trippy in that if it's not one dimension of reality, it's something else That he throws into question and twists around in his novels. The guy has this very solid academic philosophical and street wise education behind him.
