The Importance of Background Knowledge in the Game
I think one of the most misunderstood things about background knowledge is how much it shapes even our perception. I can have deep knowledge of the game, but struggle to apply knowledge in the game. The ability to respond to real time cues is a really simple and neat way of putting it. We always sort of anticipating what we're likely to happen next. And if I don't really understand what the opposition might be trying to do, I'm making a decision that's very different from someone who knows more than me.
