David lewis is famous for coining this term, although i'm sure it goes back earlier than him. The idea that one can always recombine individually possible things into a using a patchwork principle. That principle seems to me that it's not an inviolable law of metaphysics or the epistemology of moralities. And nobody can prove to me that that's an exceptionless rule,. There are other everybody thinks there are exceptions to this. Everybody has their exceptions.
