The Authority of the Church Age Post-Apostolic Era

The church age post-apostolic era is distinct from the apostolic era. There's still something different about when the apostles who knew Jesus in his life are alive and writing books that become scripture. Do they set up charismatic gifts and individual experiences as the source of authority moving forward? Did they set up an infallible magisterium? Or is it that their books that they had written are now going to become the norm of how the church is to judge doctrine?
