Permaculture - The Importation of Asparagus

I was sent by the Open University in England, Michael Young, to Lesotho for three or four years. The local market consisted of a few women sitting on the ground with half a dozen tomatoes and onions. They were selling those to get rice or corn to eat. Why weren't they eating them? I realised this is a nature of an awful lot of trade and it's the poorest of the people. And I accepted that immediately and it became part of my permaculture when I started teaching.
