We do need new legislation, but I'm also cautious and I understand the concerns of civil rights groups about the calls for a federal domestic terrorism statute. We're only very belatedly in the aftermath of the Christ church massacres. Emerging from this is going to take many years, if not a decade. The threat has been laid bare. For any skeptics who remained after Charleston, the image of nationalistsing the Capitol has put debate to rest.
