Neuroscience Is a Baby Science
The thalamus is locked onto allocentrism, things as a whole. We have related circuitry potentially in the right hemisphere of the brain and a quieting of dualistic, separated processing supported by midline cortices. One thing that promotes the shift into these lateral networks in theright hemisphere and coming into the present moment is surprise. So often there's a kind, sometimes there's a sort of surprise that initiates these self-transcendant experiences.
