Do Strength Training Work for Athletes?

The priority has to be the running as much as you sort of want to get athletes strong. And so if you're doing some sort of strength training session that's kind of depleting a little bit of the glycogen stores fatigue in the nervous system, I'd be very surprised if that then doesn't adversely affect their running session. But again, the study that I did and had published as part of my PhD, we use very well trained runners for that. They were doing a small amount of plyometrics before they then did a run to exhaustion on the treadmill. So it's a model that you could play with but it's the training units rather than like a whole string training session
