I actually found it quite easy to stay further away from reality. I use my lived experience just to set the tone and the backdrop. But in terms of the plot devices and the climax and the events that happen in the book, I just went wild with that because that's not things fortunately that haven't happened to my family's nail salon. Things like blackmail and sabotage and gambling and DUI is like those aren't in my family's reality. It was a lot more fun and easier to just go with it and sort of step outside the reality that I lived.
