What Happened in the Nineties?
In 19 90 er there was a wind of change across eastern europe, offas the berlin wall had fallen in 19 89. For a while, albania was untouched by these events, in part because it didn't belong to the soviet block of countries. But then things changed in romania as well, and that touched more albania. And so there became a wave of protest at the university, which very quickly turned into something much more radical and demanding fundamental political change. In 19 91, the first democratic elections took place since the communists had taken power almost 50 years earlier.
