The law courts are not really concerned with missus manders. They are concerned with the effect of crime upon society as a whole. The court has huge powers, in terms of contempt of court, to deal with reluctant witnesses. Butnobody wants to make life more difficult for a woman like missus mander. And so it's always a very difficult call for a judge to try and work out the best approach.
