The Amygdala in Fear
In a subsequent experiment, researchers showed that if the amygdala is destroyed, the animals are totally fear-ness. This implies that the fear response really does require a functioning amygdala. Antonio Damasio has done a lot of work with emotions in human patients and argues that normal emotions like fear are essential to normal decision-making.
