The Importance of Screening Women in Their 40s

Mammograms work because they pick up white cancer on a black breast. Once you reach 50 in the menopause, your breasts become less dense. So tiny cancers are easy to see. We're trying to pick up cancers that are two or three millimeters in size. I think there are a group of women who should be screened earlier and those are definitely the African American population. People with a moderate family history, people who are at high risk. But my worry is it's patients driving something that may not be good for their health.
