Sally Kohn: People are always surprised. There's always stuff about a business that you never even think to ask about or that the seller articulated in a way that didn't completely transmit the reality of the scenario. I recently had a client who bought a business and his entire focus in due diligence was on the sales and the cost of goods sold. It then became apparent that the seller had been deferring maintenance on these vehicles because he knew he was going to be selling the business.
