Merchant Ship Owners Managed Sailor Opportunism

James Madison's idea of an unconstrained or autocratic leader refers to James Madison, one of the founding fathers of the United States. The reason that this stuff was going on in merchant ships was because of what's called a principal agent problem. So this is basically that the merchant ships were owned by one set of people but run by another set of people and you needed to make sure that these things were aligned.
