Grandpa and the Wind

The wind tipped him halfway out of the rocking chair when I came back to the porch. His mouth was open and there was a whole mess of flies there, going in dry and coming out wet. He had upset the flies quite a bit. The worst of it was his eyes opened partway. Though I could only see the bottom half it still felt like he was looking at me. 11 years old with tears in my eyes, mama singing a hymn to my sister in the background.
