The Shadow War in Lahore
In Lahore in particular, the capital of the Punjab, you started to see a degree of violence that was almost surreptitious. Hindus dominated the commercial community there. They owned a lot of the property. Muslim gangs started conducting arson attacks on these businesses. Their owner is out of the city and across into what would end up being India. So the Hindu community in Lahore started to leave, to pack up their valuables. The Cyril Radcliffe writes home to say that 80 million people will soon hold a grievance against him.
