Cecilia Hayes is a professor at the University of Oxford who studies the way the human mind differs from that of other animals. Her book focuses on three abilities that are presumed to be unique to humans, imitation, mind reading, and language. Many researchers consider all three to be cognitive instincts which implies they are inherited via genes rather than being learned from the culture around us.
